Treating Kids TODAY!

Greetings Volunteer!

Happy Independence Day!

At the start of every semester, we remind the children to do their best,
so they can be the best they can be.  But also...
so we can treat them!

The goal was to get at least an average of 80 on all their subjects.
This is the highest count we have so far!  We are treating 19 children
today (whereas before only 5 could make it).

We want to apologize for the extremely late notice!!!  It's because
we have been working out details with the children and the foundation
so it's only today that we got permission for the event.

today June 12, 2014
starting 1 PM onwards
We will meet you at the 2nd floor escalator

Please let me know if you can make it.  My cell is 0998-551-3165

Blessings!

May 17 Exercises for Small Sizes

Film Showing: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

Greetings Volunteer!

So what's happening this Saturday?

We are going to have Vicky, a fitness instructor, lead us into simple
exercises that the children will enjoy!

Next we will have a sponsored party by the Lambino party.  They
have recently come from Japan and will teach children's exercises
as well!  Afterwards there will be some games and prizes and food!

YEEYYYY!

Now the Lambino family are celebrating (secretly) the birthday of their
son so they will be inviting other people to help out in the games.
SOOOO it will be quite a crowd.

We already have about 10 volunteers so I didn't make a shoutout online
anymore.  We would rather wish to meet up with you for any ideas
you have for future summer events we can do at the center (if too
crowded, a separate planning meeting will ensue).

Last week was fun!  The children were mesmerized by the fantabulous
graphics from the movie "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs"!  It gave the
volunteers some time to plan for future events like the Childrens Choir!!!
(exciting!)

May 3 at the Movies!

Greetings Volunteer!

VERY IMPORTANT!!!
This Saturday we are changing venues!!!  We will be at the He Cares
Center in Project 6.

ALSO TAKE NOTE: I have a new cellphone number so please
disregard the old number!  Smart 0998-551-3165

Happy Easter season!

We've had quite a long break since our last session was last April 5.
Our basic drama workshop for the children was very new and quite interesting!

Now we move onto another summer event, a film showing!
Why a movie?  So the children can enjoy while listening to English
and in a way be more familiar with it.

We are not yet sure which movie we will be playing.  It might be Ice Age
or another fun animation film.  Do you have any suggestions?

WHY NOT A FIELD TRIP?This summer is a bit different.  Due to an accident occuring to one of the children
from He Cares (not from our area), the foundation is working on their safety rules
with DSWD.  Until then, we are not allowed to take the children out of the center.
We won't be meeting in Brgy. Bungad until this is all worked out.  Let's hope and pray
this is settled soon!

This Saturday, we will serve some merienda at around 2:45pm.  If you would like to bring
snacks (like some biscuits) so the children will have something to munch on while the
movie is running, please do!  The merienda will be pancit and juice so it's okay as well if
you don't bring any.  Please help us serve the merienda and mingle with the children.
Bring a joke or magic trick if you can!

On other news...

We are still working on Sunday tutoring.  We are still waiting for the number
of children from the area heads so we know how many tutors we need.

Helping a child to love learning is surely a step towards a brighter
future.  Please know that you don't have to be a teacher to join us.  You never
know how much of an impact you will make on a child from the streets.
Even for a short while you can touch a life.  You can touch the future!

Come this Saturday?

Please join us on:

April 5 Summer Drama Workshop

Greetings Volunteer!

VERY IMPORTANT!!!
This Saturday we are changing venues!!!  We will be at the He Cares
Center (map attached) in Project 6.

Salve, one of our volunteers is from Peta so she will conduct a basic
drama workshop for the children.  Isn't that exciting!!!  Thank you Salve!

We will need volunteers to encourage all the children to participate
and to help distribute the food.  You may learn a thing or two as well!

On other news...

Our plans to conduct another tutoring group for other children from
different areas is underway.  We are looking for people who are available
to help out on Sundays.  Please reply to this e-mail to let me know.

Helping a child to love learning is surely a step towards a brighter
future.  Please know that you don't have to be a teacher to join us.  You never
know how much of an impact you will make on a child from the streets.
Even for a short while you can touch a life.  You can touch the future!

Come this Saturday?

Just 2 hours to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is
possible to understand) is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

15 March on March 15

Greetings Volunteer

"15 March on March 15"
What does it all mean?

It means that a class of 15 are coming on Saturday!
They're marching on as a call to serve the children!

So, either you can take a rest or just be an observer this Saturday.

Just to update you, we met up with the coordinators of the other
He Cares areas and they are excited to have more tutors come and
help out!!!  They are currently looking for venues to have the study
sessions.

And wait!  SOME GOOD NEWS!!!

We heard that this year almost all the children have raised their
grades to an average of 80 to get their reward (as we have promised!)
Wow we are really going to stretch our budget but this is great news!!!
They are really improving their grades!  Every year, more and more
children are joining the achievers group!!!

It's all because of YOU and your help!!!

Please do join us in the mission of making these children's lives better!

Last Saturday's tutoring session was a first!  14 excess volunteers!
And we already turned away some who confirmed! This really means
that we can branch out to the other areas.  Isn't that great????
We think so!

Helping a child to love learning is surely a step towards a brighter
future.  Please know that you don't have to be a teacher to join us.  You never
know how much of an impact you will make on a child from the streets.
Even for a short while you can touch a life.  You can touch the future!

Come next Saturday?

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, we just need you to listen
to the children and to help them read books (provided) and maybe understand
their lessons (if you need assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be
apprehensive about forgetting the basics from gradeschool, we've forgotten
too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.  What's most important
is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just 2 hours to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is
possible to understand) is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

Please join us on:

April 5, 2014 (Saturday)
1 to 3 pm
3rd floor, Brgy. Bungad
*near Baler St. and West Ave. QC (map attached)

Schedule:
1-1:30 pm is for First timers orientation, asking questions
and setting up the venue (arranging chairs, putting books and materials
        on the tables etc)
1:30 to 2-3 tutoring proper
*when the volunteers come earlier,we can start tutoring earlier

*PLEASE ask for directions before Saturday because sometimes, we are
already doing the orientation and some volunteers are lost because we
are already busy and were not able to answer the calls.

THINGS TO BRING:
- bring water, you might get thirsty!
- no need to bring anything else, just some enthusiasm!!!

If you cannot be there but want to help, we need:
+ offer to photocopy exercise sheets
+ lesson plans / activity sheets (grades 1 to 6)

This Saturday is coming and we pray that:

1. We will have a good attendance of both volunteers and children.
2. That that children will be able to learn and excel in school.
3. That the tutors will enjoy their session with the children and take home wonderful memories.

October 4 and 18
November 15 (possibly another on 29)
December 6
(christmas party)

NEXT Saturday (APRIL 5):

We are calling for more volunteers!  Everyone is invited.
You don't have to be a tutor.  You just need to have a
heart of compassion for these young ones.

What will we teach?  Primarily English and Math.  If you
are able to teach other subjects that is great but we don't
require professional tutors.  What we need are people
who are encouraging and positive for the children to
emulate.

How?  Come and the children will ask you about their
homework or you can tell them a story or do some simple
arithmetic with them.

Please consider coming.  When we lack tutors, we cannot give
the attention they badly need since we have to tutor 2 or 3 or
4 students at a time.  We aim to have one child to one tutor.

If you have more questions please feel free to reply to me.
Please confirm if you are coming so we can assign you a child
to Shannon at shannon_capati@yahoo.com

When 1 Teaches 2 Learn

Greetings Volunteer!

I asked one of the first timers of last tutoring session how she found
her time with the children.  She said "Ang saya, pero bitin!"
(it was fun but the time was too short!)

Robert Heinlein's words "When one teaches, two learn" easily describes
what we do on tutoring session Saturdays!  It's not just the children
that pickup a thing or two, we do too!

Have a terrific time this Saturday with children from Looban,
an urban challenged community.  You'll be assigned one child to read
with and for you to help them with simple exercises.

Life on the streets is living a life with an uncertain future.  Many who
are left to themselves turn to their friends who are also searching for
meaning with their existence and some turn to drugs and crime.

He Cares foundation is a beacon of hope for these children but since
there are so many of them, the foundation still needs you to put some of
the pieces together - like hope for the future, value for education, even
just friendship can change the picture!

Last Saturday's tutoring session, we had a good attendance from the
children and a lot of first timers.  We hope you come back if you haven't
in a long while.  Remember that the more the children see you come back,
the more they feel the love!!!

Helping a child to love learning is surely a step towards a brighter

A Child Needs You!

Greetings Volunteer!

Sometimes an hour or two of your time with someone can change the
course of their life forever.  Even just a smile, a pat on the back can
tell them that someone cares and wants to see them succeed.
