15 March on March 15

Greetings Volunteer

"15 March on March 15"
What does it all mean?

It means that a class of 15 are coming on Saturday!
They're marching on as a call to serve the children!

So, either you can take a rest or just be an observer this Saturday.

Just to update you, we met up with the coordinators of the other
He Cares areas and they are excited to have more tutors come and
help out!!!  They are currently looking for venues to have the study
sessions.

And wait!  SOME GOOD NEWS!!!

We heard that this year almost all the children have raised their
grades to an average of 80 to get their reward (as we have promised!)
Wow we are really going to stretch our budget but this is great news!!!
They are really improving their grades!  Every year, more and more
children are joining the achievers group!!!

It's all because of YOU and your help!!!

Please do join us in the mission of making these children's lives better!

Last Saturday's tutoring session was a first!  14 excess volunteers!
And we already turned away some who confirmed! This really means
that we can branch out to the other areas.  Isn't that great????
We think so!

Helping a child to love learning is surely a step towards a brighter
future.  Please know that you don't have to be a teacher to join us.  You never
know how much of an impact you will make on a child from the streets.
Even for a short while you can touch a life.  You can touch the future!

Come next Saturday?

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, we just need you to listen
to the children and to help them read books (provided) and maybe understand
their lessons (if you need assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be
apprehensive about forgetting the basics from gradeschool, we've forgotten
too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.  What's most important
is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just 2 hours to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is
possible to understand) is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

Please join us on:

April 5, 2014 (Saturday)

*when the volunteers come earlier,we can start tutoring earlier

*PLEASE ask for directions before Saturday because sometimes, we are
already doing the orientation and some volunteers are lost because we
are already busy and were not able to answer the calls.

THINGS TO BRING:

- no need to bring anything else, just some enthusiasm!!!

You don't have to be a tutor.  You just need to have a
heart of compassion for these young ones.

What will we teach?  Primarily English and Math.  If you
are able to teach other subjects that is great but we don't
require professional tutors.  What we need are people
who are encouraging and positive for the children to
emulate.

How?  Come and the children will ask you about their
homework or you can tell them a story or do some simple
arithmetic with them.

Please consider coming.  When we lack tutors, we cannot give
the attention they badly need since we have to tutor 2 or 3 or
4 students at a time.  We aim to have one child to one tutor.

If you have more questions please feel free to reply to me.

When 1 Teaches 2 Learn

Greetings Volunteer!

I asked one of the first timers of last tutoring session how she found
her time with the children.  She said "Ang saya, pero bitin!"
(it was fun but the time was too short!)

Robert Heinlein's words "When one teaches, two learn" easily describes
what we do on tutoring session Saturdays!  It's not just the children
that pickup a thing or two, we do too!

Have a terrific time this Saturday with children from Looban,
an urban challenged community.  You'll be assigned one child to read
with and for you to help them with simple exercises.

Life on the streets is living a life with an uncertain future.  Many who
are left to themselves turn to their friends who are also searching for
meaning with their existence and some turn to drugs and crime.

He Cares foundation is a beacon of hope for these children but since
there are so many of them, the foundation still needs you to put some of
the pieces together - like hope for the future, value for education, even
just friendship can change the picture!

Last Saturday's tutoring session, we had a good attendance from the
children and a lot of first timers.  We hope you come back if you haven't
in a long while.  Remember that the more the children see you come back,
the more they feel the love!!!

Helping a child to love learning is surely a step towards a brighter

A Child Needs You!

Greetings Volunteer!

Sometimes an hour or two of your time with someone can change the
course of their life forever.  Even just a smile, a pat on the back can
tell them that someone cares and wants to see them succeed.

We want to share with you the good news that we have new materials
for our tutoring sessions care of Lorie Francisco yey *applause*!!!
Thanks Lorie!  These are arranged by grade level so all we have to
do is work with the children on these English and Math worksheets.

Be Involved in Someone's Future

Greetings Volunteer!
A blessed new year to all of you!
We hope you've had a wonderful vacation with your loved ones and
are all geared up to go out and volunteer!
Every day we hear news of crime happening in the metropolis.
The perpetrators are usually desperately poor.  Contrast that with
the children who have persevered in school despite all the odds,
getting good jobs and taking their family out of the slums to go to
their new home in a better environment.
We can help them take one more step towards that future.  The more
we volunteer, the more steps we can help them take.  The more we
encourage them to stay in school and keep at it, the more they leave
a future with a life on the streets.  A positive change that can help
generations.
This Saturday marks our first time to tutor this year and we will
be announcing new developments there - good news!  In a nutshell
we have a plan so that more children will have the help they urgently
need!  Can you come?
Please know that you don't have to be a teacher to join us.  You never
know how much of an impact you will make on a child from the streets.
Even for a short while you can touch a life.  You can touch the future!
Last time we had a fun session, not just with the children but with getting to know
the new volunteers.  We are blessed to get to know a lot of folks with golden hearts!
Come this Saturday?
You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, we just need you to listen
to the children and to help them read books (provided) and maybe understand
their lessons (if you need assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be

Join the OYOTT project!

We want to wish you a most blessed new year!
You've been for us this past 2014 with your time, talent, thoughts and treasures and we really do appreciate it!

So what's the OYOTT project?

We know that you know (that we know that you know) about the help we give the children from He Cares foundation.  These children live on the streets, a very challenging environment to flourish in.  The support they get from the short times of chatting and talking about school and homework brings a load of difference in their lives!

BUT sometimes our BUSY SCHEDULES get in the way of our trying to spend time with them.
Now we thought of a way to help YOU and help the CHILDREN more effectively and that is to have OYOTT ... On Your Own Time Tutoring.

You get to tell us when you wish to help a child with his studies and we coordinate with the children.  You will get 1 child to help (or let us know if you want more children to help).  You may tell us which grade level you prefer (usually Grades 1 to 6).  The child will bring his own books and you will just need to bring scratch paper and a pen.  You may bring a book to read together if you like.  Take note that English is the subject they need help with the most and Math comes in second.

Venue will be in the He Cares Foundation center at #9 Mines St., Project 6, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.

To join send an e-mail to us at tina@papemelroti.com

We look forward to hearing from you!

**** An important reminder:  You don't have to be a teacher.  We appreciate everyone from all walks of life.  We encourage you to practice conversational English if ever their studies are not familiar to you.
