First Time to Tutor

The activity was a successful one as the main goal of it was to be able to teach something new to the children - which can help and improve their knowledge on different subjects.

The children we taught had fun and were motivated to learn, as they were truly engaged in what was being discussed.  The facilitators made sure to oversee the activity and that all the children had their designated instructors (considering there was a restriction in the time allotted).

It was a memorable experience not only for the children but also for us instructors because it was our first time to tutor children and it took a lot of courage for us to step up and lead the discussion.

Wednesday Tutoring Begins

--------------- UPDATE!  New Time for Wednesday Tutoring Sessions is 9 AM (instead of 10am).  ---------------

Hello VolunTutor!

We are all set for March 16 and 30 (new scheds) Wednesday 10AM-12NN tutoring.
Kindly sign up at http://www.ivolunteer.com.ph

We already have a good number of volunteers who signed up for the 5 household boys in need of help with their schooling.

For those who signed up, please watch this online orientation video https://youtu.be/qL2XjIBKabw so you can start right away.  It is a online tutoring orientation that is very important to watch.

Once you get there, Cathy, the Balik Aral coordinator, will guide you with the materials and other information.

The children on Wednesday are in the He Cares household because their parents are not capable of taking care of them.  They are in Grades 3-4.

If you need directions on getting to the He Cares Mission building, pls contact Cathy 09324623769 and please look for her when you get there to introduce you to the kids.

Thank you soooo very much!  Have fun!

Halo Halo Summer Party

We had such a cool and fun time last April 18, 2015 with the He Cares Foundation children!  We had halo halo dessert where the volunteers all pitched in to bring an ingredient and another volunteer even brought snacks for the children to bring home!

We had more than we could eat!  The children kept coming back for more as this was really the perfect snack for them!

They were also practicing their English so we had movies and movie clips for them!

This group was deeply engrossed in a movie.

The most popular area was the place with a fan of course!

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped us out and made our time with the children super memorable and enjoyable!  See you again soon!

Halo Halo Party with He Cares Kids

Dear Volunteer,

We are right in the middle of the Easter season and it's summer too!  It's time to celebrate the goodness of life!

We will be having a halo halo session and either a film showing or another activity.  We are still threshing out the details.  Would you have a movie that would benefit the children?  Let me know.

He Cares Foundation is a Christian non-profit organization that takes care of the needs of street children and their families.

In the effort to encourage the children to continue their schooling in the midst of various challenges from their environment, we have formed friendships with them and helped them with their academic needs.  During summer, we try to organize fun activities for them to keep learning and enjoying life to the full!

Come this Saturday?

We will need 10 volunteers.  If you are coming, please bring something for the halo halo.  The children will be 20 + volunteers.

Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come so
you can be informed of any last minute announcements.

March 7 Saturdate with the Kids

Dear Voluntutor,

It's the Lenten season all over and in the Philippines and it's the time for acts of kindness and love specially towards those in need.  These children need all the help they can get.  Their challenging environment prevents many from continuing their education.

Do you want to join us as we bring the children hope and help for a brighter future? Last session was so much fun!  We had a lot of newcomers and old timers as well!

Come this Saturday?

We will need 25 volunteers.  Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come so
you can be informed of any last minute announcements.

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, we just need you to listen to the children
and to help them read books (provided) and maybe understand their lessons (if you need
assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be apprehensive about forgetting the basics
from gradeschool, we've forgotten too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.
What's most important is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just an hour to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is possible
to understand) is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

Please join us on:

March 7, 2015 (Saturday)
1 to 3 pm
1st or 3rd floor, Brgy. Bungad
*near Baler St. and West Ave. QC

answer but someone else's can be borrowed in case you don't have :)

This Saturday is coming and we pray that:

1. We will have a good attendance of both volunteers and children.
2. That that children will be able to enjoy the session and be better at school.
3. That the volunteers will enjoy their session with the children.

Here are the latest schedules for future sessions.

(Usually 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month)

March 7 and 21
April 11 and 18 (consecutive Saturdays to give way to Holy Week)
May 2 and 16
June 6 and 20

October 3 and 17
November 7 and 21
December 5 (Christmas Party)

Schedule:
1-1:30 pm is for First timers orientation, asking questions
and setting up the venue (arranging chairs, putting books and materials
        on the tables etc)
1:30 or 2 to 3 pm tutoring proper
*when the volunteers come earlier,we can start tutoring earlier

*PLEASE ask for directions before Saturday because sometimes, we are
already doing the orientation and some volunteers are lost because we
are already busy and were not able to answer the calls.

If you cannot be there but want to help, we need:
+ offer to photocopy exercise sheets
+ lesson plans / activity sheets (grades 1 to 6)
+ urgent need: filing cabinet or locked cabinet for the books

This Saturday is coming and we pray that:

1. We will have a good attendance of both volunteers and children.
2. That that children will be able to learn and excel in school.
3. That the tutors will enjoy their session with the children and take home wonderful memories.

We are calling for more volunteers!  Everyone is invited.
You don't have to be a tutor.  You just need to have a
heart of compassion for these young ones.

What will we teach?  Primarily English and Math.  If you
are able to teach other subjects that is great but we don't
require professional tutors.  What we need are people
who are encouraging and positive for the children to
emulate.

How?  Come and the children will ask you about their
homework or you can tell them a story or do some simple
arithmetic with them.

Please consider coming.  When we lack tutors, we cannot give
the attention they badly need since we have to tutor 2 or 3 or
4 students at a time.  We aim to have one child to one tutor.

If you have more questions please feel free to reply to me.
Please confirm if you are coming so we can assign you a child
to Shannon at shannon_capati@yahoo.com

Lastly do tell us if you are coming!!!  Sometimes there are last minute
changes with the venue so we need your confirmation.

Blessings!
