Happy VolunTutors, Happy Kids

Dear VolunTutor,

During every session, we truly share our joy with the children and the children also make us so happy!  Their desire to learn, their enthusiasm, their idealism is infectious!  We are so thankful for every volunteer who has come and made a difference in the lives of the children!

Come this Saturday?

We will need 30 volunteers.  Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come - text 09985513165 so you can be informed of any last minute announcements.

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, and no teaching experience is required - we just need you to listen to the children and to help them read books and worksheets (provided) and maybe understand their lessons (if you need assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be apprehensive about forgetting the basics from gradeschool, we've forgotten too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.  What's most important is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just an hour to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

Please join us on:

January 30, 2016 (Saturday)
1 to 3 pm
He Cares Mission Bldg., 9 Mines St. Project 6, QC

Directions: From SM North Mall, ride proj6 jeep. Tell driver you'll get down Visayas McDonald's. Walk to DENR road then turn left 2nd road on left is Mines St. - #9 OR Cross the street in front of McDonalds and pass through the little alley to cross into the street parallel Mines St.  Walk left and then walk to street turning right.  Follow the road and you'll see He Cares on the right side.

*PLEASE ask for directions before Saturday because sometimes, we are
already doing the orientation and some volunteers are lost because we
are already busy and were not able to answer the calls.

THINGS TO BRING:
- bring water, you might get thirsty!
- snacks to share with kids and volunteers (optional)
- ballpen and scratch paper
- just some enthusiasm!!!
- OPTIONAL: If you have wifi that would help a lot for questions we can't
answer but someone else's can be borrowed in case you don't have :)

This Saturday is coming and we pray that:

1. We will have a good attendance of both volunteers and children.
2. That that children will be able to enjoy the session and be better at school.

Masaya Mag-Tutor

Dear VolunTutor,

We always have a lot of smiles during Tutoring Sessions!  These children really love coming to meet the volunteers and asking questions so they can learn.

These children used to have blank stares and dress with holes in their shirts.  After more than 6 years of tutoring them 2x a month, there is really a marked difference.  You're helping them be confident and to finish their schooling!  You're such a blessing!

PS. This is the last regular tutoring session for 2015.  We are not opening the Christmas Party to volunteers because 2 organizations asked to sponsor those and they are bringing a lot of volunteers already SO this is your last time to be with the chldren this year.  So hope you come!

Tutoring is Good for the Brain

Dear Voluntutor,

Isn't it wonderful that helping streetkids don't just benefit the children but also those who help them?

Last Saturday, someone came up to me and asked, why do the children respect you?  How did you get them to do that? I didn't really know how to answer that, I wasn't just so happy to hear it.  Indeed we are blessed with such good kids!

Tutoring them doesn't just teach them about academics!  You teach them many more lessons of life!

Come this Saturday?

We will need 15 more volunteers.  Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come - text 09985513165 so

and to help them read books and worksheets (provided) and maybe understand their lessons (if you need
assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be apprehensive about forgetting the basics
from gradeschool, we've forgotten too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.
What's most important is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just an hour to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is possible
to understand) is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

This Saturday is coming and we pray that:

1. We will have a good attendance of both volunteers and children.
2. That that children will be able to learn and excel in school.
3. That the tutors will enjoy their session with the children and take home wonderful memories.

We are calling for more volunteers!  Everyone is invited.
You don't have to be a tutor.  You just need to have a
heart of compassion for these young ones.

What will we teach?  Primarily English and Math.  If you
are able to teach other subjects that is great but we don't
require professional tutors.  What we need are people
who are encouraging and positive for the children to
emulate.

How?  Come and the children will ask you about their
homework or you can tell them a story or do some simple
arithmetic with them.

Please consider coming.  When we lack tutors, we cannot give
the attention they badly need since we have to tutor 2 or 3 or
4 students at a time.  We aim to have one child to one tutor.

If you have more questions please feel free to reply to me.
Please confirm if you are coming so we can assign you a child
to Shannon at shannon_capati@yahoo.com

Lastly do tell us if you are coming!!!  Sometimes there are last minute
changes with the venue so we need your confirmation.

Blessings!

Christina Alejandro
Volunteer Coordinator

P.S.  If you cannot come this Saturday, please come next time!

*Please feel free to pass this e-mail invite to anyone who may be interested to join us!
