Cheer Up Cards for Children of Typhoon Yolanda Survivors

What could bring more cheer to a child than a comfort and cheer card along with relief goods?

This Saturday we are having an art session with the children of He Cares foundation West Ave. area.  We DON'T want you to come!  We want to encourage you to go to anywhere there is repacking and counseling for typhoon Yolanda survivors.

BUT if you can't do that, JOIN us!!!  We will help the children being some cheer through the cards.  Then World Vision will distribute these for us.

A Load of Good News

A bit of good news from the tutor team...

Yesterday's session was one of the best!  We had a good number of children and volunteers and everyone enjoyed themselves!

In fact, some of the children were more than an hour early!  That's how excited they were to come to that day's session!

One of the things that made it really special is that our beautiful, wonderful, über generous friend Shawie had a merienda treat for the children!  They had spaghetti, burger, soda AND toys from Jollibee!  The volunteers got fed too!

We also got wind of some more good news!  We have a handful of children who have had a challenging time and just dropped out of school.  Despit counseling, talking with parents and all the cajoling, they really haven't gone back?

But we heard from one of the moms yesterday that 2 of these girls now hold jobs!  I am so happy to hear that!  At least they are not spending their time wasting away in idleness or worse, getting into trouble.

Another bit of good news is that Lorie, one of the first time volunteers donated some lesson sheets and educational materials (some of which she developed) that would be very very helpful!

Last but not least, one of the nicest surprises of all is that one of the volunteers Raissa mentioned a plan they have a similar program in some of the poorest areas in metro!!!  Isn't that great!  So exciting!

Let their Dreams Take Flight!

Greetings Volunteer!

We will be having another meaningful Saturday! Wish to join us?  Please do!  You never
know how much of an impact you will make on a child from the streets.  Even for a
short while you can touch a life.  You can touch the future!

Last time we had a fun session, not just with the children but with getting to know
the new volunteers.  We are blessed to get to know a lot of folks with golden hearts!
Come this Saturday?

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, we just need you to listen
to the children and to help them read books (provided) and maybe understand
their lessons (if you need assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be
apprehensive about forgetting the basics from gradeschool, we've forgotten
too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.  What's most important
is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just 2 hours to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is
possible to understand) is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

Please join us on:
November 9, 2013 (Saturday)
1 to 3 pm
3rd floor, Brgy. Bungad
*near Baler St. and West Ave. QC

on the tables etc)
2-3 tutoring proper

If you cannot be there but want to help, we need:
+ scratch paper
+ lesson plans / activity sheets (grades 1 to 2nd yr high)

This Saturday is coming and we pray that:
1. We will have a good number of tutors for the children coming.
2. That that children will be able to learn and excel in school.
3. That the tutors will enjoy their session with the children and take home wonderful memories.

Here are the latest 2013 schedules for future sessions.

November 9 & 23
December 7 (christmas party)
This Saturday:
We are calling for more volunteers!  Everyone is invited.
You don't have to be a tutor.  You just need to have a
heart of compassion for these young ones.
What will we teach?  Primarily English and Math.  If you
are able to teach other subjects that is great but we don't
require professional tutors.  What we need are people
who are encouraging and positive for the children to
emulate.

How?  Come and the children will ask you about their
homework or you can tell them a story or do some simple
arithmetic with them.

Please consider coming.  When we lack tutors, we cannot give
the attention they badly need since we have to tutor 2 or 3 or
4 students at a time.  We aim to have one child to one tutor.
If you have more questions please feel free to reply to me.
Please confirm if you are coming so we can assign you a child

The Most Powerful Weapon

Greetings Volunteer!

“Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are the most powerful weapons." - Malala Yousafza, the 16-yr-old Nobel Peace prize nominee asks governments to stop buying arms
but instead spend the money on education.

On Saturday we invite you to make a difference in the lives of young children, to smile, encourage and help them in any way we can to keep them striving in school, to never give up!

We are sorry the weather was bad last time so we had to cancel our session.  We were concerned for the health of the small children walking in the rain to the venue as well as for the volunteers who were coming from as far as Cavite who would have a harder time if we canceled later in the day.

Change the Direction

***** Hello everyone, due to the weather condition today we are sorry but we have to cancel the tutoring session.   The small children walk to the venue so we don't want them to get sick - we hope you can come on October 26 when we will have another one, stay safe everyone! *****

Greetings Volunteer!

We're nearing the end of our 5th year and we want to let you in on a
plan we have for the coming sessions!

Because of your time and effort in helping the children, they are visibly
improving in their academics, social skills and character.

We want to be able to help MORE children and plan to open up another
tutoring day for another area.  Please pray for this endeavor?  THANKS

Ganito ba kayo noon?

Greetings Volunteer!

Buti nalang!  Buti nalang we don't need to be a couple of geniuses to
help children in need!

These children live in dark, crowded environments.  The streets are
more enticing.  Many of them stop schooling just to help the family out.
They need to have some new friends to tell them they can dream and
achieve anything if they just keep at it and if they don't give up.

That person is you and me and we are sorely needed!

Just 2 hours to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is

Live Your Life From Your Heart

Greetings Volunteer!

Just to update you a bit on the moms who attended the Tahanan ng Panginoon
B.L.E.S.S. event.  A van load of moms came specially to the graduation night,
one of the most attended sessions.

One mom said she didn't want to go home after being ministered to, prayed
for by the servers.  Another mom said she felt so light and happy.  One mom
told me that before she was attending prayer sessions like these, she used to
beat up her daughter but since she became serious in attending, she has changed
a lot and no longer does this.  Incidentally, her daughter is doing well in school!

Your efforts count a lot!  These children (and their parents) need what little
support (and prayers) we can give them.  Thank you for your tireless efforts!

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, we just need you to listen

Mind Museum Field Trip

We had an absolutely mind-blowing experience at the Mind Museum at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig!

The kids were all so excited to go.  It was their first ever time to go to Fort Bonifacio!

The museum is one of the best (if not the best) science museums in the country.  There are so many interactive exhibits that you can spend hours upon hours just learning about so many things.  And I don't mean the kids alone!

We were so blessed to have 2 teachers with us - Shannon and Lyza!

Here are Jessica and Tricia enjoying the exhibits.

It was nothing short of hair-raising!

Afterwards, the children had fun in the playground outside.  Never a dull moment for them!

We thank whole-heartedly all of the donors that have made this event possible!  Thank you for Mind Museum giving a big discount for all of us, even the volunteers!  Thank you Ate Aileen for preparing the food and being the lone mom taking care of the kids.  Thank you Kuya Joey for arranging the ride!  Thank you Kuya Toto and Kuya Elmer for driving everyone there safely.  Thank you to the volunteers Diony, Jason, Shannon, Lyza, Ate Aileen, Hanzel, Jojo, Iam, Tina for making this an amazing experience!

Spreading Some Smiles

"Anong pangalan mo?" (What's your name?)

The big man tells his name.

A little girl 1/4 his size, inside a small car, hands over some snacks and a packet of milk to a tricycle driver and he looks a bit puzzled with what is going on.

The little girl become excited.

"Ako susunod!"  (Me next!) The little boy in the back seat says.

These children were tasked last April 13th, 2013 to give away some simple snacks to total random strangers. Strangers who they thought would benefit from some freebies.  The children are used to being given handouts from the foundation and from kind individuals but this is the first time in their lives that they are the ones giving out to those in need.

The bigger kids would leave the car and go to the people they would give it to.

They came away with light hearts.  They came away smiling and happy.

We want to thank everyone who donated goodies like biscuits, milk packets etc for these children to give away.  The experience they had was priceless!

He Cares Children Go Birdwatching!

We came out with this promo ad on Facebook and Google+ to get volunteers to teach something they know.

Fortunately, Maia and Jops of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines, responded to the call.  They conducted a birdwatching for beginners session.

Here area some pictures with captions from Maila who facilitated the event.

They had a short introductory talk about birdwatching and the proper behavior when birding..  The children learning to use their bins properly

Spotting one of the favorite birds that afternoon: a Collared Kingfisher!

Falling in line while waiting for their turn at the scope =)

Jun asking the very excited kids to fall in line

We also got to see a number of Brown Shrikes, which most kids described as "astig" =)

Very quickly, they started spotting birds by themselves.

Stickers coming up!!!

Spread Some Smiles Day

It's Spread Some Smiles day this Saturday (April 13 afternoon only)!
