Masaya Mag-Tutor

Dear VolunTutor,

We always have a lot of smiles during Tutoring Sessions!  These children really love coming to meet the volunteers and asking questions so they can learn.

These children used to have blank stares and dress with holes in their shirts.  After more than 6 years of tutoring them 2x a month, there is really a marked difference.  You're helping them be confident and to finish their schooling!  You're such a blessing!

PS. This is the last regular tutoring session for 2015.  We are not opening the Christmas Party to volunteers because 2 organizations asked to sponsor those and they are bringing a lot of volunteers already SO this is your last time to be with the chldren this year.  So hope you come!

Come this Saturday?

We will need 30 volunteers.  Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come - text 09985513165 so
you can be informed of any last minute announcements.

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, and no teaching experience is required - we just need you to listen to the children and to help them read books and worksheets (provided) and maybe understand their lessons (if you need
assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be apprehensive about forgetting the basics from gradeschool, we've forgotten too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.  What's most important is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just an hour to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

Please join us on:

November 21, 2015 Saturday
1 to 3 pm
He Cares Mission Bldg., 9 Mines St. Project 6, QC

Directions: From SM North Mall, ride proj6 jeep. Tell driver you'll get down Visayas McDonald's. Walk to DENR road then turn left 2nd road on left is Mines St. - #9

are already busy and were not able to answer the calls.

THINGS TO BRING:

- ballpen and scratch paper
- just some enthusiasm!!!
- OPTIONAL: If you have wifi that would help a lot for questions we can't

Tutoring is Good for the Brain

Dear Voluntutor,

Isn't it wonderful that helping streetkids don't just benefit the children but also those who help them?

Last Saturday, someone came up to me and asked, why do the children respect you?  How did you get them to do that? I didn't really know how to answer that, I wasn't just so happy to hear it.  Indeed we are blessed with such good kids!

Tutoring them doesn't just teach them about academics!  You teach them many more lessons of life!

Come this Saturday?

We will need 15 more volunteers.  Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come - text 09985513165 so
you can be informed of any last minute announcements.

They Love to Learn!

Dear Voluntutor,

When I asked a first time volunteer how his time with the children went, he said, "They want to learn!  It's not hard to teach them!"  I was so happy to hear that!

Indeed they want to learn! The little kids walk about half an hour to the venuem after coming from the He Cares general assembly (which also tires them out).  The come despite the other things they could do like play and just laze around.  We hope you will come and help Them out.

Come this Saturday?

We will need 10 more volunteers.  Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come - text 0917-835-4511 so

This Saturday is coming and we pray that:

1. We will have a good attendance of both volunteers and children.
2. That that children will be able to learn and excel in school.
3. That the tutors will enjoy their session with the children and take home wonderful memories.

We are calling for more volunteers!  Everyone is invited.
You don't have to be a tutor.  You just need to have a
heart of compassion for these young ones.

What will we teach?  Primarily English and Math.  If you
are able to teach other subjects that is great but we don't
require professional tutors.  What we need are people
who are encouraging and positive for the children to
emulate.

How?  Come and the children will ask you about their
homework or you can tell them a story or do some simple
arithmetic with them.

Please consider coming.  When we lack tutors, we cannot give
the attention they badly need since we have to tutor 2 or 3 or
4 students at a time.  We aim to have one child to one tutor.

If you have more questions please feel free to reply to me.
Please confirm if you are coming so we can assign you a child
to Shannon at shannon_capati@yahoo.com

Lastly do tell us if you are coming!!!  Sometimes there are last minute
changes with the venue so we need your confirmation.

Blessings!

Christina Alejandro
Volunteer Coordinator

P.S.  If you cannot come this Saturday, please come next time!

*Please feel free to pass this e-mail invite to anyone who may be interested to join us!

Thank you to Lola Honeylou and Daddy Jacob for making this all happen!  Thank God for your whole family's generosity and your community's too!

Thank you to Faye, Dana and the whole team!

You sure made a lot of children smile today! Thank you to the volunteers who arrived: Jovy, Jonar Ivan, Pao, Des, and of course, Joey and Armand!  Thank you kids for being a blessing to Toby! Thank You Lord!!!

We apologize to those of you who were waiting for the announcement for this session. The family requested to have their guests as the volunteers for the day.

    Achievers Treat 2015

    Last year it was 18.

    This year it's 22.

That's the number of achievers we have this year!  Congratulations for reaching our standard!

The first year we started this initiative, there were only 5 children who passed.  We must be doing something right!  Almost all the children now have reached the average grade for this treat!  Clap!  Clap!  Clap!

First off in the program, we prayed for our event and then the tutors gave some praise and encouragement to the students!

Then the shopping ensued!  The kids used up some of their treat money for shoes, toys, school supplies and knick knacks.  Others didn't use it yet as they wanted to save it!

Then we went to our favorite Mang Inasal!

The children really loved it!  The tiniest of children had like 3 servings of rice!  (Sulit ang unli rice!)

I'm so proud of the children's achievements but even more than that, I was struck by the compassion of the children.  While we were waiting for the food from Mang Inasal, there was a lonely child crying loudly inside the restaurant.  The children surrounded her with sympathetic expressions and they were so concerned with why she was crying.  Soon enough the child's mother arrived so she was alright.  I was really struck by the children's empathy!

We may need to raise our average grade level just to preserve our budget for next year!  But keep up the good work kids!

    Tulong Tutor

    Dear Voluntutor,

Summer is all over (at least for most schools) in the Philippines and we are embarking on another year of fun and learning with the children!  Our apologies as we skipped a session or two during vacation break due to schedule conflicts and people getting sick.  Still we are grateful for a fruitful summer season!  We had a lot of good memories for sure!

Do you want to join us as we bring the children hope and help for a brighter future? Last session at the Ark Avilon zoo was eye opening.

    Come this Saturday?

We will need 25 volunteers.  Please be sure to alert me if you plan to come so
you can be informed of any last minute announcements.

You don't have to be a whiz at Math and English, we just need you to listen to the children
and to help them read books (provided) and maybe understand their lessons (if you need
assistance, other tutors may be asked).  Don't be apprehensive about forgetting the basics
from gradeschool, we've forgotten too.  It's a team and we help each other remember.
What's most important is that these children make a friend who encourages them to go on.

Just an hour to encourage them that learning can be enjoyable (or that it is possible
to understand) is more than enough. Seeing people who care is enough.

    Please join us on:

    It's a Summer Birthday Party

This Saturday we are having a summer birthday party with the He Cares kids!

Rhea, a lovely lady who has a golden heart, is celebrating her birthday this month and she wanted to spend it with the chikdren!  She is such a great blessing!

Consequently the pair have invited their family, friends and officemates so we will not be needing more volunteers but if you're free nowadays, He Cares still needs you!  The building is just about ready to use but still needs painting and art work.  Contact Kuya Joe Dean 928-8910 if you can join!

    Thanks and enjoy the summer!
